Do we really (or really have to) play a part in the uncontrollable aspects of life?

A specific example from work:

As we gathered for a town hall meeting much was abuzz. This last-minute meeting was already off to a negative start, before it even began. A cranky and malcontent mob enters, not wanting to hear a word. Well, I suppose an explanation of the new and short-noticed OT on Saturdays was one question that many were curious to ask and receive. The introduction and middle sections of the presentation were standard, the family background of the new plant manager was interesting, otherwise a little boring. Nothing new from general business meetings elsewhere. The end came sooner than expected, 30 minutes? We were scheduled for an hour. I wanted the full hour, of pay, or of the presentation I mean, of course. Well, Q&A started soon so that should do it, take up the remaining portion of the hour, and so it did.
